| The container became the key of international transport. Due to this reality, in 1990 the Port of Lille created a first specialized trimodal terminal, it means it is accessible either by water, by train or by road. L.C.T (Lille Containers Terminal) is today one of the most important inner harbours of France. Extending on more than 10 hectares, LCT has a quay of 300 meters in progress of doubling, the 6 railway junctions totalize 2,200 meters of railways and it is in direct catch with the highway network. LCT is connected by regular river routes to the principal container ports of the North Sea: Dunkirk (NCS connections), Zeebrugge (2 departures per week), Antwerp (6 departures per week) and Rotterdam (3 departures per week). The reliability, flexibility and economic competitiveness of these lines already conquered many operators and chargers (Auchan, Castorama, 3 Swiss, Grandes Malteries Modernes, Roquette, Cerestar and major maritime armaments). The Port of Lille offers a door-to-door service, combining waterway transport, the handling operations by L.C.T, and the pre and or post-routing road transport. By this way the customer, that might be the army, maritime companies, agents, forwarding agents, conveyors or direct chargers, who just have contact with one interlocutor who is responsible for the operations? unification. Since 2003, the same range of services is available on the terminals of Halluin, Harnes and Delta 3.
