Created in 1948, the Port of Lille became in a few decades an extremely important actor in the regional planning and logistics. It constitutes a network of harbour platforms distributed in the zone of Lille Metropole, and even beyond for some of them. These ports are all multimodal, so they have at least two means of transport (canal/route), and the most importants are trimodal (canal/rail/route). Its locations propose a variety of services, such as: land space renting, office renting, warehouses, workshops, logistic services (handling, storage, management of stocks, order preparations?), handling, storage, and transport of maritime containers by river barges, management of the flows of the die valorization, among others. The Port of Lille intervenes with its clients not only as a harbour authority in charge of placing at their disposal the infrastructure and the equipment of the port, but also as an operator, managing its own traffics with its own personnel for then gaining its own resources. This characteristic, linked to its consular status, keeps the port closer to the enterprises with whom it shares the same concerns for performance and the same competitive requirements as well. |
